Activating Public Space

1548 Commerce St
98402

While you stroll through downtown Tacoma and enjoy all the shopping, dining, and events happening this holiday season, check out Tollefson Plaza.

The City of Tacoma and Downtown On the Go have spruced up Tollefson Plaza as a way to grow conversation around this underutilized space.

Tollefson Plaza was built in 2006 as a gathering place for the downtown community. Over the last decade, people have held events there and made efforts to turn it into a vibrant part of Tacoma.

There are many ways to improve public space – like trees and art – but the number one way to do it is with people! Help the City of Tacoma create a Tollefson Plaza where PEOPLE want to be by taking this survey.

Learn more about public space activation, tactical urbanism, and how we can create a lively walkable downtown.

Red Fang with R.I.P and Gold Sweats

Fawcett Hall at Alma Mater
1322 Fawcett Ave
98402

Ever since their inception in 2005, Portland’s RED FANG have strived to write heavy, catchy music underlaid with subtle complexities. Founded by David Sullivan, Maurice Bryan Giles, Aaron Beam, and John Sherman, the band had a distinctive and fully-formed sound right from the start: a mix of compelling songwriting and hard rocking euphoria that speaks to the headbanger, the hesher, and the music student alike. The band’s two-pronged vocal attack and knack for finding the sharpest hooks made sure that the music world caught on right away. Within just one year of RED FANG’s first show, they were opening for genre stalwarts the Melvins and Big Business, and soon began appearing at festivals including FYF, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sasquatch Fest, and more.

R.I.P. – After several years of hammering the west coast with the blunt scythe of street-doom, R.I.P. finally committed to tape an introductory will and testament for the rest of the world to tremble to. “In the Wind” closes the casket on the trends and exhumes the notion that doom isn’t about how slow and de-tuned you can play, but about fear, death, leather and playing as heavy as possible.
